Genealogy of Winfield Gallup and Florence Miles

Notes

William Symonds

Notes:
He was sworn into the Merchant guild 26 Oct 1565. He owned lands at Chawton and he was three times mayor of Winchester, 1575, 1585 & 1596.
Some compilers contend that William had another son, Mark, who was the father of the Priscilla Symonds who married John Warner. If true, it would join the two Symonds lines in the ancestry of Winfield Gallup, However, I have not been able to find any evidence that Mark was a son of William.
What is much more tantalizing, however, is the contention be several compilers that this William Symonds was the father of the Mary Symonds who married George Hills. If this were true, William would be a common ancestor of the Mileses and the Gallups, an 8th great grandfather of Florence Miles and a 9th great grandfather of Winfield Gallup. It is just too disappointing that I have not been able to find a shred of evidence to support this - There just happened to be in England about the same time two William Symonds, one in Winchester and one in London, both with daughters named Mary,

John Symonds

Notes:
He married an "Elizabeth".

Jane Symonds

Notes:
She married after 26 Jul 1605 Thomas Morey the younger of Chawton.

Ellen Simonds

Notes:
She was named in her Uncle Peter's will. Married Thomas Bostocke, Gent.

Mary Symonds

Notes:
Some researchers contend that this Mary Symonds married George Hills but I have been unable to find any evidence for that, not even in the LDS files. If it were true, it would tie together the Miles and Gallup lines. See note for her father.

John Symonds

Notes:
He lived in High Street, Winchester, Hampshire, England and he was the Bailiff of Winchester 1539-40.
This John Symonds was a 9th great grandfather of Florence Bertha Gallup. I have tried without success to make Florence and Winfield into cousins by tieing this John Symonds into the line of another John Symonds who lived between 1450 and 1550, an 11th great grandfather of Winfield Dyer Gallup. Too bad.

Peter Symonds

Notes:
Peter was apprenticed to John Wilkynson, a London mercer. His will provided for scholarships for divinity students and this formed the beginning of the Peter Symonds School for Boys, Winchester.

John Symonds

Notes:
John married an "Anne" and he was the Baliff of Winchester in 1565-66 and 1580

John Adams

Notes:
John and Elizabeth had children by 1647.

Joseph Richardson

Notes:
With Joseph, Jr., child of Joseph and Hannah we have another connection joining Winfield Dyer Gallup and Florence Bertha Miles as Cousins.

Hannah Greene

Notes:
This Hannah is not the same person as the Hannah Greene who married John Vinton, Jr.
