They lived in Palo Alto, CA, where Carolyn worked as a nurse in a local hospital and Jack attended Stanford University. Their marriage lasted from 1948 to 1955 but ended in divorce, after which she returned to school from 1956 to 1961 at U.C. Berkeley, CA, where she received her Masters Degree in Social Work. Carolyn met her second husband, Jerry Cambre, in Monterey, CA, while interviewing for her first social work job. She moved to San Francisco, CA, in 1964 where she has lived until the present time.
