Thomas Sherwood

Notes:
Thomas Sherwood was born in England about 1586. His wife 's name was Alice and she was born about
1587. On 10 April 1634, at age 48, Thomas sailed from Ipswich, England aboard the "Frances", John Cutting, Master, and landed at Plymouth, MA, June 1634, with his wife Alice and children: Hannah, Rose, Thomas and Rebecca. His older daughters came in 1638/1639 with Robert Seabrook. [In "Bennett & Allied Families," pg. 35, it is speculated that the four oldest children named in the will did not come to America as they were not on the passenger list of the "Frances." From Leonard, "Seven Hundred Ancestors," pg. 77 "Probably the first four children belonged to Alice and the rest to Mary."] They resided several years in Massachusetts and then moved to Fairfield, Connecticut where he had land before 1650. He was a Deputy to General Court from Stratford to the Connecticut legislature in Sept.1645, 1649, May 1650, Oct 1653 and Oct.1654. He was a farmer in Stratford, CT and later in Fairfield, CT.
Thomas made his will dated July 21, 1655 and proved (probated) 25 Oct. 1655, in it he mentions all of
his children and his wife, Mary, showing that he had a second wife. All land in his will was in Fairfield. His son Thomas owned a dwelling & his home lot next to that of his father.
