[From: Historic Homes and Places and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs relating to the Families of Middlesex County, Massachusets by Cutter, W. R.]Henry came to the new town of Woburn in 1650, one of the first settlers there. He is believed to have come there from Devonshire, England. He built in 1661 a palatial house which is still [about 1850] one of the most imposing in the town and which, though with some changes and occasional improvement, has been owned and occupied by his descendants for six generations. Henry Baldwin was a sergeant of the Woburn militia from 1672-1685, and deacon of the First Church, Woburn, from 1686 until his death. Henry and Phebe had a large family: Susanna (died at birth), Susanna (married Israel Walker), Phebe (married Samuel Richardson), John, Daniel (married Hannah Richardson), Timothy (married Elizabeth Hill), Mary, Henry Jr. (marriaed Abigail Fiske), Abigail (married John Reed), Ruth and Benjamin (married Hannah [ ? ]).
Baldwin's will as allowed 04-Apr-1698 and named his wife Phebe, sons Henry, Daniel, Timothy, and Benjamin; his son Israel Walker, husband of his daughter, Susanna and his grandson Israel Walker; his son Samuel Richardson, husband of his daughter Phebe, and his grandson Zacahriah Richardson, son of Phebe; also his two daughters, then single, Abigail and Ruth Baldwin.
From the start of the Baldwin and Richardson family lines in America, the two were closely related for several generations by intermarriage.
Notes:
The children of Ezekial and Susanna were: Phebe (married Henry Baldwin), Theophilus (married Mary Champney), Josiah (married Remembrance Underwood), John, Jonathan, James (married Bridget Henchman) and Ruth.
Notes:
Thomas was twice an 8th great grandfather of Winfield Dyer Gallup through his sons Samuel and Thomas and a 9th great grandfather through son Ezekiel. These three brothers lived near each other on the same street in which was known as 'Richardson's Row.' It runs almost due north and south, in the north-eastern part of the present town of Winchester, and now constitutes a part of Washington Street in that town.
