Naomi Elizabeth "Libbie" Curran
Notes:
Farmed 3 miles north of Turton, SD. It is now more than one hundred years since the Great Blizzard of Jan. 12, 1888. It was a sunny morning and Libbie (Curran) McCartney decided that it was a good day to wash clothes. She shared a wash boiler with her mother, so Libbie asked her husband, John, to walk approximately one half mile west to borrow the boiler. He got to the Currans but luckily, the blizzard struck before he was ready to return home. It came suddenly and without warning. Had he started he may not have survived. It was two days before Libbie knew if her husband was safe.
